Guy Eshed is Principal Flutist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

He held the same position with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Florence Opera House) under Maestro Zubin Mehta, Berlin Staatskapelle under Maestro Daniel Barenboim, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding, and the Manchester Camerata under Douglas Boyd. In addition, he has served as principal flutist of Maestro Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra since 2001.
In great demand as an orchestral musician, Guy has appeared as guest solo flutist with orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra of La Scala, among others.

As a soloist, Guy has appeared at the prestigious Salzburg and Lucerne festivals with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Maestros Daniel Barenboim and Pierre Boulez. He has performed in Italy, Germany, the UK, Hungary, and his native Israel with orchestras such as the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, the Israel Camerata Jerusalem, Ecuador National Orchestra, the Berlin Chamber Soloists, Berlin Hof Musik, the Tel Aviv Soloists, and the Kammerphilharmonie Amade, collaborating with Trevor Pinnock, Nicholas Kraemer, Jaime Martin, Frieder Obstfeld, and Kolja Blacher
Guy is a keen chamber musician. Apart from his work and recordings as a founding member of Ensemble 360, he is a regular participant of the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival and has taken part in various chamber music festivals as the Beethovenfest Bonn and the Vaals Festival.

He has performed in prestigious chamber music series such as of the Wigmore Hall, Paris Cité de la Musique, Berlin Konzerthaus, Paris Louvre, Düsseldorf Tonhalle, and Essen Philharomonie with partners including Daniel Barenboim, Kirill Gerstein, Elena Bashkirova, Frans Helmerson, Klaus Thunemann, Marie Luise Neunecker, Karl- Heinz Steffens, Gary Hoffman, Pascal Moragues, Alex Klein, Guy Braunstein, Antje Weithaas, The Berlin Philharmonic Soloists, and others.

He has recorded several times for the Israeli radio, German radio, the BBC, and the Swedish Radio and made four albums of works by Mozart, Spohr, Beethoven, and Poulenc for the ASV and Nimbus labels.
Guy was a regular scholarship winner of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and won a special excellency grant from the Töpfer Foundation, Hamburg.

He graduated with honors from Tel Aviv University, the Hochschule for Music Hanns-Eisler Berlin, and the Hochschule for Music and Theater Hamburg. Among his teachers were Lior Eitan, Yossi Arnheim, Mordechai Rechtman, Prof. Jacques Zoon, and Prof. Moshe Epstein.

At the age of twenty-one, after completing his three years’ service duty for the Israel Defense Force as Principal Flutist of the Air Force Orchestra, Guy was appointed principal flutist of the Northern Israel Symphony Orchestra, Haifa, where he played between 2000-02.
