Emily Recommends

Recipes from Israel
Emily Kane Miller served as Guest Editor for AFIPO’s August 2020 newsletter. Here she recommends some of her favorite recipes from Israel!
We love Israeli cuisine, but I didn’t always have time to prepare the gorgeous layers of flavor these dishes demand. Here are four I’ve added to my pandemic repertoire. Each is delicious, kid approved, and guaranteed to transport you. Press play on your favorite Israel Philharmonic performance, and get cooking.
- Anything from Adeena Sussman’s cookbook Sababa, but especially Leben Imo (Fish in Yogurt Sauce) and Za’atar Roasted Chicken over Sumac Potatoes
- Sabih from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi’s cookbook Jerusalem
- Spinach-Feta Burekas from Joan Nathan’s cookbook King Solomon’s Table
- Tehina Shortbread Cookies from Michael Solomonov’s cookbook Zahav — in our house, we finish them with sesame seeds and finishing salt before they hit the oven, you won’t be sorry.
Pair recipes with Israel Philharmonic music.
