KeyNote

KeyNote is one of the Israel Philharmonic’s classical music education and community-building programs that reach more than 22,500 children every year in Jewish, Arab-Israeli, immigrant, religious, and secular K-12 Israeli schools. Its transformative programs encourage a shared passion for culture in the next generation while promoting openness, tolerance, and mutual respect through music.

AFIPO’s support was pivotal in founding KeyNote, the IPO’s classical music education and community-building programs—and is proud to continue supporting the initiatives to this day.

KeyNote initiatives include:

Kindergarten

IPO musicians visit kindergarten classrooms and lead interactive lessons. The year culminates with the IPO hosting the children in a memorable fun-filled chamber performance.

Grades 1 & 2

IPO musicians give special chamber concerts and lead fun-filled workshops. The year culminates in attending a full-scale IPO concert.

Grades 3, 4, 5, & 6

Through multiple in-classroom sessions with IPO ensembles, students are exposed to classical music and prepared for a special morning concert at the end of each semester.

High School

Adding an exciting artistic element to the high school experience, KeyNote gives young musicians access to the IPO. By providing diverse ways to engage in classical music, high school students are provided opportunities to hone their skills and achieve a greater level of music appreciation.

Family Concert Series

A five-concert afternoon series for families to learn about diverse forms of classical music. Orchestral performances are combined with dance, humor, theatre and even the circus.

Instrument Day

This initiative allows music students the chance to interact with orchestra members, through special events that focus on specific instruments and dedicated concerts.

Zubin Mehta Stage for Young Talent

This program invites talented young musicians to make their debut solo appearance with the Orchestra.

Arab-Jewish Ensemble

Known as Shesh-Besh, this ensemble brings together three IPO musicians with four musicians from northern Israel’s Arab community, performing in Israel, abroad, and at Arab and Jewish schools.
