Ljubljana

By Peter Marck

The orchestra finally performed indoors in an actual concert hall! Although Ljubljana’s “Cankarjev Dom” is not the hall where Gustav Mahler was music director, it is a wonderful modern hall and we had a great concert. The standing ovation, not to be taken for granted in Ljubljana, was very rewarding for both the orchestra and Zubin.

Tuesday was the first free day of the tour; an opportunity to re-charge our batteries before important concerts at Salzburg and Lucerne. The orchestra divided into groups for day trips to Lake Bled, the Postojna Caves or a walk into downtown Ljubljana to visit the Castle. The weather did not spare us and a sunny morning turned into a downpour by afternoon.

Family life goes on, even on tour, and in the evening, Principal Flute Yossi Arnheim celebrated his 60th birthday with his wife Avigail and friends.

The tour continues with a train trip to Salzburg through the beautiful Alps.
