Music Festival to Celebrate IPO’s 80th Anniversary

December 26, 2016 will mark 80 years since Maestro Arturo Toscanini conducted the inaugural concert of the (later named) Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. This historic moment represented not only the culmination of Bronislaw Huberman’s courageous efforts to save hundreds of lives by establishing an “orchestra of the Jewish people,” but also the creation of a first-class musical institution. Ever since the modern founding of the State of Israel, the IPO has received international recognition, unlike any other Israeli cultural institution. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is an icon and as such, it has paved the way for diplomatic relations between Israel and many countries, utilizing the powerful universal language of music, which has the power to unite races and religions like no other.

This milestone will be celebrated in Israel with a star-studded music festival, led by Maestro Zubin Mehta, with some of the world’s finest conductors and soloists. Concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and recitals will be performed from December 20th to December 31st, featuring a star-studded lineup of guest artists.
